Our paint line assist tools, designed to hold vehicle doors, deck lids, fuel doors, and trunk lids in position during the e-coat and paint process, were developed by PTM in 1994. By 1996 we saved our first two clients a cool million when they switched from old style fixture paint tools to our Cricket Clips! Today we are supplying or developing paint assist tools for nearly 70% of North American car assembly operations - 12 different OEM's! We produce approximately 10 million paint tools every year. What’s up with the name?
You are no doubt wondering by now, where the name Cricket Clip originated. While some may think our clips look like an insect, the truth is much simpler. While touring the assembly plant at one of our early clients, the line workers kept referring to the tools as Crickets Clips. Being curious types, we finally had to ask why they were calling them that. We were told to “listen”… Sure enough, as the car bodies bounced down the assembly line, the clips were making a noise similar to that of a common cricket! They have been known by that name since.
